Rachel KlamoRachel Klamo, DO, MS, FAAFP

Dr. Rachel Klamo earned her medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006.  Upon graduation she was awarded both The President's Award for Outstanding Leadership & Service and The National Osteopathic Women Physician's Association Award for Outstanding Leadership. She completed family medicine residency at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Illinois, where she served as chief of the Resident Council and was one of a small number of residents selected to staff the ICU as a senior trainee.

She holds board certifications from both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians.

Post-residency, Dr. Klamo worked for six years at the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Hinsdale, Illinois, where she served as core faculty, osteopathic program director, and director of research. She was an assistant professor in family medicine at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and vice-chair of the hospital's Department of Family Medicine. Before leaving Illinois, she served as a board member for the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians and chaired the Student and Resident Committee.

After returning to Michigan in 2015, Dr. Klamo was the associate program director for family medicine and program director for transitional year residency programs at Wayne State University/Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital. Here she also practiced full-scope family medicine, including inpatient care, OMT, obstetrics, procedures, and community medicine. She currently is in full-time comprehensive practice with Ascension Medical Group in Oxford. She serves on Ascension's Physician Operations Council, chairs the Ethics and CME committees, and is the hospital's chief of family medicine.

Dr. Klamo was installed as MAFP President-elect on August 14, 2023. She previously served as vice president, speaker, treasurer, and director of the Board. Today she volunteers her time as a member of Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan's Professional Development Committee, which plans and oversees all of the Academy's continuing medical education programming.
