Beyond the Smoke: A Practical Approach to Vaping & Tobacco Use

This presentation reviews the evolving landscape of nicotine addiction, emphasizing both traditional smoking and the rise of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). It highlights the epidemiology and health harms of tobacco, explains how vaping devices function, and contrasts their risks with cigarettes. In a case-based format, the presenters will review diagnostic criteria for nicotine use disorder and provide evidence-based cessation strategies, including pharmacotherapy, behavioral counseling, and self-management resources. The presentation also emphasizes best practices for provider-patient conversations, motivational interviewing, and harm reduction.
