Mikita Arora, MD

A 2014 graduate of the American University of Antigua College of Medicine, Dr. Mikita Arora is now in her third and final year of family medicine residency at McLaren Healthcare-Oakland in Pontiac and serves as the resident member on the MAFP Board of Directors.
 
With a passion for advocacy and resident education, Dr. Arora served as Michigan’s Resident Alternate Delegate to AAFP’s National Conference of Family Medicine Residents & Medical Students in 2021. Here she was elected Resident Alternate Delegate to AAFP’s 2021 Congress of Delegates. While serving in this role alongside other delegates from across the country, she learned AAFP’s governance process in preparation for representing resident member interests as a senior delegate when the Congress convenes Sept. 19-21, 2022, in Washington, DC.
 
“Being a National Resident Delegate to the Congress of Delegates has taught me the importance of advocating for our patients and empowering them to be in charge of their health. This position has helped me grow as a leader. It is my honor to give back to the community that has trained me to become an excellent family medicine physician. I am excited to be the resident voice on the MAFP Board and work together to create a better future in family medicine in the state of Michigan,” she said.
 
Dr. Arora is also a volunteer member of Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan’s Student & Resident Education Committee, AAFP’s Commission on Education, and is a Medical Watch blogger for the New England Journal of Medicine, representing the family medicine perspective.
 
Dr. Arora’s interests are physician wellness, preventive medicine, social determinants of health, and health equity. Post-residency, she aspires to work in Michigan, either in private practice or as a faculty member at a residency program.
