Public Comment Needed on CME Acceptance by May 16

Recent changes to state auditing and regulatory practices have created a gap in explicit recognition of the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians’ Continuing Medical Education programs, which have been recognized in the state for more than forty years.

Despite this decades-long history of acceptance, we must now call upon the Michigan Board of Medicine to update the administrative rules in order to have all MAFP CME offerings accepted. In addition, if you take any of our current CME programming, those credits have been approved through joint providership of Michigan State Medical Society and MAFP. While MAFP waits for these rule changes to be made, the organization is working to ensure that all future MAFP CME program credits are accepted for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. We will keep you apprised on the status of those efforts as there are updates to share.

Now, this is where you come in. As a family physician in Michigan, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs needs to hear from you about the importance of quickly amending these rules so that all of your valid CME credit is accepted by the State of Michigan and attributed to keeping your license in good standing in order for you to continue to provide care for families across the state.

Now, it’s time for MAFP members to act. On May 16 (9 a.m.), the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs will hold a public hearing to receive public comments on proposed changes to the Medicine – General Rules rule set. Please join MAFP in submitting written comments to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to have all MAFP CME offerings accepted. To do so, click here to email LARA with a pre-formatted email and please ensure your signature is listed at the end.

With enough family physician voices joining MAFP, these regulatory changes can be made and the MAFP CME programs can continue to support you.

Thank you in advance for your pivotal support with this effort. If you have any questions, please email Chief Executive Officer Karlene Ketola, MSA, CAE at [email protected].
