Frank Animikwam, MD
Dr. Frank Animikwam serves as a clinical assistant professor of family medicine at MSU College of Human Medicine in Petoskey and as tribe health site director at McLaren Northern MI/MSU Family Medicine Residency. He also serves as the medical director and a family physician with the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, of which he is a citizen. He has interests in traditional Native American healing practices, cross-cultural medicine, integrative medicine and community-engaged research.
Dr. Animikwam earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed residency at the Sparrow/MSU Family Medicine Residency Program, where he served as co-chief resident.
He is deeply committed to integrating Western medicine with traditional Native American healing practices and has researched improving health outcomes in Indigenous communities. Dr. Animikwam is actively involved in advocacy, and has served MAFP and AAFP at the state, national and tribal levels. Dr. Animikwam served on the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and as a delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians Congress of Delegates. His leadership and dedication to culturally-appreciative care make him a strong advocate for underserved populations and family medicine.
