MAFP Members Advocate for Specialty During Family Medicine Summit

A record 350 American Academy of Family Physicians members attended the 2026 Family Medicine Advocacy Summit, held June 14-16 in Washington, D.C., including 11 members representing the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians. Following a day of sessions focused on key policy issues, the political climate in Washington, D.C., and best practices for in-person advocacy, family physicians, residents and medical students headed to Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and congressional staff.

Throughout approximately 250 congressional meetings, attendees advocated for improved patient access to chronic care management, greater accountability for Medicare Advantage plans, and the removal of barriers that prevent physician visa holders from practicing where they are needed most. Michigan’s delegation helped ensure that family physicians, residents, medical students, and their patients were represented in these national discussions.
